Grimes Worries "Beauty Culture" Will Impact Her and Elon Musk's Daughter
Grimes is worried about her daughter’s future.
The 37-year-old—who shares daughterExa Dark Sideræl, 3, sonTau Techno Mechanicus, 2, and X Æ A-Xii, 4, with ex Elon Musk—lamented the prevalence of beauty messaging in pop culture.
She took to X, formerly Twitter, on April 14 to ask, “Do any other women feel like ur being choked to death on beauty culture?”
The singer went on to note how she’d been listening to what she described as a “super bro mens podcast” which usually gives her “laughably misdirected” ads when she instead received an ad for Sephora.
“Can I go somewhere where someone isn't shoving ‘DONT YOU WANT TO BE BEAUTIFUL’ down my throat,” she added. “I'm getting like radicalized just out of pure desire to not have to engage with this sick notion of beauty that follows me like a wraith.”
And in a follow up message, Grimes worried about how Exa might be affected in the future.
“The insidiousness of what our culture does to young women is insane,” she wrote. “I feel enraged knowing I won't be able to protect my daughter from this. What a monumental waste of mental space. All the large tech and media companies are complicit in this.”
While the “Genesis” singer didn’t name her ex—one of the United States’ biggest tech moguls—as part of her criticism, Grimes has previously called out Elon over his choices to bring their children into the spotlight (including X Æ A-Xii’s viral visit to the White House’s Oval Office).

“I have tried begging the public and my kids dad to keep them offline, and I've tried legal recourse,” Grimes wrote on X March 13. “The state of my children's lives being public is of grave concern to me and I think about how to solve this every day. It's insane to me that theres[sic] no way to deal with this.”
Grimes has been locked in a legal dispute with Elon since 2023 when she filed a petition to establish parental rights following the pair’s 2022 breakup after four years together.
"I would hope there was some law that would allow a parent to veto small children from living public lives," she continued, "but I don't even trust the law to help me now if I tried to invoke it tbh."
E! News reached out to reps for Musk at the time but did not receive comment.

And after her son’s February visit with President Donald Trump went viral, Grimes reflected on the concept of fame.
“I would really like people to stop posting images of my kid everywhere,” she said in an interview with TIME published Feb. 25. “I think fame is something you should consent to. Obviously, things will just be what they are. But I would really, really appreciate that.”
The 36-year-old added, “I can only ask, so I’m just asking.”
